Guidness to a university project

Hi my name is Eviatar and I'm a undergraduate student on Tel Aviv university, Israel. I'm doing a project on "selfish" bitorrent clients, and trying to find ways to max the download and min the upload.
As I read the short theory section, the results of greedytorrent is due to modification of upload quantity reported to the tracker. My question is how this improves the upload ratio?
Are there more heuristics that improve greedytorrent over other clients, maybe regarding to choke/ unchoke algorithms?
And generally, if anyone could give me any guidelines of how to make a selfish client, I would be very thankful!
